Charged EVs | CEA and ProLogium team up to develop recyclable solid-state battery module

Lithium battery developer ProLogium Technology has formed a partnership with French public research organization CEA to develop a solid-state battery module with a Design-for-Disassembly structure.

The companies have been collaborating since November 2024 to create a battery system that combines high energy density with a modular, easy-to-dismantle design. This approach aims to enhance the ability to repair, recycle and reuse the batteries, ProLogium said.

CEA brings its engineering expertise and experience in module design, prototyping and testing and validation, while ProLogium contributes its superfluidized all-inorganic solid-state lithium ceramic battery cells design. The technology is designed to deliver high energy density, safety, ultra-fast charging and low-temperature performance, according to the company.

By focusing on tailoring the battery design for disassembly, ProLogium and CEA aim to address industry pain points in recycling and circularity. The modular architecture enables individual cells to be removed independently, making it easier to separate the different cell components for repair recycling. This should reduce electronic waste, shorten repair times and optimize overall costs.
