Charged EVs | New ANSI report identifies gaps in EV engineering standards

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released its October 2025 Gaps Progress Report. This document reflects efforts by standards-developing organizations (SDOs) and other stakeholders to address the gaps identified in ANSI’s Roadmap of Standards and Codes for Electric Vehicles at Scale, published in 2023.

The progress report provides updates on standards, research and conformity assessment activities in regards to 31 previously identified gaps. It also suggests modifications to existing gaps, and identifies 21 additional gaps to be considered for future roadmaps.

The June 2023 roadmap identified 37 standardization gaps across the areas of vehicle systems, charging infrastructure, grid integration and cybersecurity. Representatives from 130 organizations supported the roadmap’s development, including US government agencies and national laboratories, SDOs, industry and academia.

The gaps report is not a consensus document, but rather is intended to serve as a “living document” that will be maintained and periodically re-published as standards development work continues.

The next gaps progress report is expected to be issued in spring 2026. Organizations wishing to get involved in EVSP activities cna email evsp@ansi.org or visit http://www.ansi.org/evsp.
