Charged EVs | it’s electric to deploy 90 new curbside EV charging ports in Los Angeles

Curbside EV charging pioneer it’s electric has been selected by the Los Angeles DOT to deploy 90 new public curbside charging ports.

The new chargers will replace those that were previously part of the BlueLA carshare network, and will go into service over the next 12 months. The first 15 chargers will open in November and December at three locations in the Koreatown neighborhood.

it’s electric’s curbside chargers use detachable charging cables—each customer receives a free cable from the company. Using detachable charging cables (the norm in Europe, but rare in the US) reduces street clutter, improves safety, and addresses the widespread issue of charging cable theft and vandalism. Detachable cables also ensure interoperability for vehicles with different kinds of charging ports (J1772 vs NACS) without the need for adapters.

“Los Angeles continues to be at the forefront of policies and solutions that enable EV charging infrastructure for all. Working with LA to build new solutions to meet the state’s goals of expanding the most extensive public charging network in the country has been among our most meaningful work to date,” said Karen Coronel, Senior Manager for Special Initiatives at it’s electric. “The conversion of the BlueLA network to fully public charging lets us provide local charging to drivers where they already park: at the curb.”
