Stagecoach South West, a regional subsidiary of UK transport operator Stagecoach, has appointed VEV to design, build and manage DC charging infrastructure across three depot locations in Devon.
VEV is an electric fleet provider backed by oil company Vitol. The charging network to be installed in Barnstaple, Torquay and Exeter will deliver a combined capacity of 7,200 kW, supporting the operator’s transition to a fully electric bus fleet across North Devon and Torbay.
Construction has started at the Torquay depot, which will serve as the flagship site, featuring 27 150 kW high-power chargers. The operator’s Exeter depot will have 10 chargers, and Barnstaple will have 11.
The charging infrastructure will be managed through VEV’s smart charging and digital energy management platform, VEV-IQ. The platform will monitor and optimize power usage, charging scheduling and charger status across the three sites.
“The comprehensive charging infrastructure across Barnstaple, Torquay and Exeter will form the backbone of our electric fleet operations, supporting our goal of having the full electric fleet of 110 buses operational by early 2026,” said Peter Knight, Stagecoach South West’s Managing Director. “As part of this project, our Torquay depot will be 100% EV.”
