Charged EVs | DejaSense aligns EV charging with on-site solar energy production

DejaBlue, a provider of intelligent EV charging infrastructure for commercial sites, has launched a new plug-and-play optimization module that automatically aligns EV charging with on-site solar energy production.

The new DejaSense module is designed to integrate seamlessly with OCPP-compliant chargers and all solar installations. Installed near the site’s electrical panel, the system continuously measures both solar production and site consumption, and coordinates charging across all dispensers, intelligently shifting demand to coincide with solar peaks (typically around midday).

In many EV charging scenarios (airports, corporate offices, university campuses), vehicles are plugged in and left parked for many more hours than needed to charge the vehicle. In such cases, there is no need to charge the vehicle as soon as it is plugged in. The DejaSense kit optimizes the charging rate so that it coincides with peaks in solar energy production, instead of immediately drawing electricity from the public electricity grid in the morning. In overcast conditions, the system switches to the grid to ensure uninterrupted supply.

Manufacturing firm Comepa was one of the first clients to test the new product. The company has 10 EV charging stations with a capacity of 140 kVA, coupled to a 120 kWp solar panel. The DejaSense kit allowed Comepa to reduce its dependence on the public grid by 30%, increasing its consumption of onsite solar energy by 23%.

The DejaSense kit has a starting price of 880 euros, plus the cost of the specific sensors for the site. According to DejaBlue, most sites can expect a payback period from electricity savings within 3-6 months.
